Internal Affairs Guide
Congratulations on reaching the Internal Affairs division!
This guide has been created to help you in your IA Exam and will act as a point of reference if you ever need a refresher on your duties.
You will find hints on how to answer each question in the exam, it is your job to take this information to answer the exams.
Please do not copy your answers directly from the guide and use your own words.
Your duties
As an Internal Affairs+ member, you should issue appropriate disciplinaries if you witness inappropriate behaviour (ie. behaviour that breaches the Code of Conduct). This applies to all official HIA platforms: Base, Discord and Portal. We call this monitoring.
You can view the Disciplinary Actions Guide to refresh your knowledge on handling disciplinaries.
Portal monitoring
A big part of your duties will include monitoring Portal to ensure Promotions are being logged correctly. There are three types of violations that can occur:
Promotion spamming - logging more than 2 promotions within 10 minutes.
Promotion camping - standing or staying near the member they want to promote while the member is still attending to their duties; standing, staying or filling a station (or standing in the hallway) near the member they would like to promote.
Promotion for the sake of promoting - promoting a member that has just exited FTB/filled a station for less than 5 minutes; promoting a member who is AFK or hasn’t been actively working.
Please have a look at the slide 7 to 9 of the slideshow for visual examples of these promotion violations.
In most cases, simply approaching the member to remind them of their error (and monitoring to prevent it from happening again) will be enough. Though if the behaviour continues, you may need to log formal disciplinaries.
Make sure to contact Portal Admin to remove incorrect logs.
Base and Discord monitoring
In addition to regular Code of Conduct breaches that you are likely to encounter on a day-to-day basis. You may sometimes encounter more serious situations such as mafia activity or bullying. In these cases, you should gather evidence and report it via the LA Complaints form. Do reassure the member and try your best to prevent the situation from persisting.
If you are unsure about a situation, you can also contact an Elective with the evidence so that they can further assess and take care of the situation.
Please see slide 11 for an example of bullying and the last section of the Internet Safety Guide for more information on how to identify mafia-related activity.
Again, please make sure you review the Disciplinary Actions Guide to refresh your knowledge on submitting evidence.
